One week before exclude Aspirin products (Advil, Aleve, Ibuprofen, etc.) and any essential fatty acids. You may resume these 48 hours post injectables.

What should I do after a dermal filler treatment?

Sleep with your head elevated on 2-3 pillows for 72 hours to help prevent swelling.

Immediately after your procedure and for 24 hours you should avoid the following:

  • Strenuous exercise
  • Massaging/pressing treated areas
  • Avoid sleeping on cheeks for 72 hours post-cheek injections

Homeopathic treatment options to minimize bruising and swelling:

  • Arnica tablets- 3 tablets 3 times per day
  • Arnica gel or cream- Apply 3-5 times per day
  • Take Claritin or another antihistamine the day before and for 3-4 days after filler injections
  • Bromelain 500mg- 2 tablets 2 times per day
What are dermal fillers?

Dermal fillers are biocompatible, injectable substances that create lift, add volume, and restore a more youthful appearance to certain areas of the face that show signs of aging.

What is in the filler?

The most common fillers are made of a soft gel consisting of non-animal hyaluronic acid. Hyaluronic acid is a sugar molecule that naturally occurs in the human body, and it is found in our skin. It helps hydrate and adds volume to the skin. It is naturally broken down by our own bodies. Dermal fillers consisting of hyaluronic acid include Restylane, Juvederm, Voluma, and Belotero.

What are the benefits of fillers?

As we age, we lose volume in key areas of the face. This contributes to folds, wrinkles, hollow temples, thinning lips, sunken eyes, and an older appearance to the face. Fillers can be used to restore this volume loss, smooth out folds and wrinkles, and improve contours to achieve natural results without altering facial expression. Certain fillers can also be used to correct scars.

How long do the results last?

The effects are long-lasting but not permanent. They last anywhere from 6 months to 2 years, depending on a number of factors including the patient’s age, the area treated, the type of filler used, the quantity of filler used, and lifestyle.

Does it hurt?

Most patients experience only mild discomfort. We use injectable lidocaine prior to treatment in most areas for a more comfortable experience, we can also use topical numbing if necessary. Many of our fillers are also formulated with lidocaine to help minimize discomfort.

Is there any downtime?

No! You can go right back to your normal routine. However, I always advise my patients that they may have some bruising or swelling, so it is best not to schedule a filler appointment 2 weeks before any important event.

What are the risks and side effects?

In general, dermal fillers are considered very safe. The most common reactions are redness, swelling, bruising, itching, and tenderness. These are typically mild and resolve spontaneously in 1-7 days for most patients. Other side effects are very rare but can include vascular occlusions. We will always go over the risks with you before treatment so you understand.

Will I look natural?

When fillers are used in the appropriate amount and placed in the right location, the result is a beautiful, natural, youthful outcome. Fillers are not meant to create totally different features. In the hands of an experienced provider that has extensive knowledge of facial anatomy, the outcome simply enhances one’s own facial features. Our goal is for you to have a very natural look, no one has to know!

Where can fillers be used?

Dermal fillers are used to treat static lines (which remain on the face even when it’s relaxed) and for facial contouring. Treatment areas include:

  • Cheeks
  • Marionette lines (which extend from the corners of the mouth down to the chin)
  • Nasolabial folds (lines on either side of the nose)
  • Lips
  • Chin and jawline
  • The backs of the hands
Which filler do I need?

Each dermal filler is formulated specifically for different areas of the face. Some fillers are more firm for building the cheekbones up, some are thinner to fill in fine lines around the mouth. We recommend having a consultation with our injector to discuss the different options and what would work best for your area of concern.

The most common areas for our different fillers are:

Restylane Kysse- Lips
Restylane Contour- Medial Cheeks
Restylane Defyne- Deeper lines around the mouth
Restylane Refyne- Fine lines around the mouth
Restylane Lyft- Lateral Cheeks

How long does filler treatment take?

The treatment time will depend on the area being injected and how much filler is needed. But, generally, dermal filler treatments are quick, taking less than 30 minutes. For more intensive filler treatments – that involve several syringes- the procedure can take 30 minutes to an hour.

Who is not a suitable candidate for fillers?

You shouldn’t have a filler treatment if you’re pregnant or breastfeeding, if you’re allergic to any of the ingredients in the filler, or if your skin is irritated or infected.

Can dermal fillers cause cold sores?

An injection around the mouth could cause a cold sore as the virus that causes cold sores can lay dormant in a person’s body until reactivated, which can be triggered by stress or trauma. If you get cold sores please let our injector know so a prescription can be called in for you.

What is the RHA® Collection?

The RHA® Collection is Resilient Hyaluronic Acid (HA) dermal fillers designed for facial dynamics. The collection represents the latest advancement in HA technology in more than a decade. The RHA® Collection uses a gentle manufacturing process to more closely resemble the natural HA in the skin—for clean beauty.
The RHA® Collection offers four HA-filler formulations. RHA Redensity™ is a weightless filler that smooths delicate lipstick lines. RHA® 2 and RHA® 3 offer elegant and refined smoothing for those seeking a soft, natural look in wrinkles and folds. Lastly, RHA® 4 provides natural volume for deeper dynamic wrinkles and folds.

Why is a dynamic filler important?

Areas treated by HA fillers can go back to their original shape after being altered, stretched, bent, or compressed. Fillers need to have a high level of resilience because they are used in dynamic areas of the face, such as around the mouth. With all of the micro movements we make throughout the day like smiling, laughing, and talking, it’s important to have a dynamic filler that can adapt and be resilient to the movements in the face. The RHA® Collection is specifically designed for facial dynamics and a natural look at rest and in motion.

When will I see results and how long will they last?

Dermal filler injection results are immediate. The results from the RHA® Collection of fillers can typically last up to 15 months in wrinkles and folds and 1 year in lipstick lines.
The RHA® Collection is widely studied. The clinical effectiveness and safety of RHA® 2, RHA® 3, and RHA® 4 were shown in two 15-month studies for wrinkles and folds. The clinical effectiveness and safety of RHA Redensity™ were shown in a 12-month study for lipstick lines—in which 2/3 of participants still had lipstick-line improvement at 12 months.

How is the RHA® Collection different than conventional fillers?

The RHA® Collection is the only line of FDA-approved HA fillers for dynamic lines, wrinkles, and folds.

The RHA® Collection uses a gentle manufacturing process with minimal chemical modifications to the initial composition. This helps preserve the structure of HA, helping it more closely resemble the natural HA found in the skin. The RHA® Collection is the latest advancement in HA-filler technology—purposely designed to treat dynamic areas of the face.
The RHA® Collection was developed by the innovative Swiss company, TEOXANE, and has been widely used by aesthetic experts outside of the US since 2015. TEOXANE was founded by Madame Valerie Taupin who co-created the dermal filler Juvéderm® two decades ago, looking to perfect dermal-filler technology. She then directed her research team to design an HA filler to more closely mimic HA in the skin—leading to the latest filler innovation in the market: RHA® Collection.
