Dysport

Botox and Dysport are both popular products for addressing common skin issues like wrinkles. These injectable medicines are known as neurotoxins or “tox” for short and they can relax your facial muscles to eliminate wrinkles, frown lines, crow’s feet, and forehead lines. Botox has been available on the U.S. market for over two decades and is perhaps the better-known product of the two. However, Dysport has also become popular over the years. It’s been FDA approved since 2009 and provides many of the same benefits as Botox. Our clients like Dysport because it kicks in faster and lasts longer.

FAQs

Can I Use Dysport If I’ve Had Botox Injections?

Absolutely! Unless you’ve had an adverse reaction to botulinum toxin A, you may undergo Dysport treatment.

What Are the Differences Between Botox and Dysport?

Dysport differs from Botox in it can show positive effects in as little as 24 hours following the procedure. Change is near complete by the seventh day, and “peaks” within a month. Results of Botox, in comparison, are noticeable two days after the procedure. They peak within two months and last three to six months. There are also differences in dosage and dilution.

How long before Dysport kicks in?

Dysport typically starts kicking in at 2-3 days but is fully kicked in at 2 weeks. We invite all of our injectable clients back in 2 weeks for a follow-up visit to see their results.

What do I need to know after Dysport injections?
  • Dysport can take up to 14 days to fully kick in
  • No exercising for 12 hours post injections
  • Do not rub vigorously on treated areas for 24 hours
  • Avoid facials, massages, and using facial cleansing brushes for 1 week
  • Do not wear a hat for 24 hours post forehead injections
  • Avoid laser procedures and all other skin treatments for 72 hours
  • It is possible, after any type of injections to have a bruise or swelling at the injection site

What areas can I treat?

The most common areas Botox® and Dysport are used for are the frown lines (between the brows), the forehead, and crow’s feet. Other areas include upper lip for “lip flip”, underarms, hands, and feet for sweating, masseter muscles for jaw pain or facial slimming, platysmal bands for tightening of the neck and jawline, bunny lines on the nose, temporalis muscle for tension headaches and chin for dimpling and pulling.

What is the Treatment Like?

Both Botox® and Dysport are quick and minimally invasive. Our injector will make a few injections into the muscle at the area of treatment. No local anesthetic cream is required, although we may choose to numb the area with an ice pack prior to injection. Discomfort is minimal with these injections. The entire procedure takes 5-10 minutes. You may resume your normal activity almost immediately after your treatment.
